Diaper Rash

General, New Baby, Product Reviews

Q: My son has a small diaper rash on his bottom. The hospital encouraged us not to use any creams or lotions for a while since he’s a newborn. We’re trying to let him air dry and stuff but is there anything else to do? Did you use diaper rash cream right away?

A: A hair dryer helps with air drying if you don’t want to leave him without a diaper for too long. Of course, you’ll probably want to use the lowest coolest setting and make sure that he doesn’t freak out at the sound… Not sure about using cream on one so little, so you might give it a little longer (like a day) and see if it clears up. If not, you might use just a little dab of whatever treatment you have and then keep an eye on it to make sure he doesn’t have a reaction to it. Haven’t tried it yet (just got a tube of it recently), but I hear Boudreauxs Butt Paste is the best for clearing up diaper rash really quickly.

I use Boudreaux, and I swear by it!!! It’s godsent! It’s the only thing that works so fast on my kids. Usually clears it up within a day or so, especially if you catch it quickly. I don’t even use any other stuff, and if I get the other stuff as gifts, I return it and exchange it for Boudreaux’s!!!!

It seems that my two are prone to diaper rashes as well. There are a couple of things you can do. Make sure you clean their hiney real well. Since you mentioned newborn, you can use A&D ointment. We apply the ointment (usually use buttpaste like Tiffany) with a q-tip as well. You can also apply dry heat. What that is is you get a lamp, take the shade off and dry the hiney with the heat. I did not trust myself for that but I have read and heard from older moms that that works well! We apply ointment at all diaper changes and make sure you cover the bum totally!!!!! When a diaper rash is presented, we use the A&D along with the butt paste! Good luck!

What I’m Up To Now…

Holy cow!! Great use of visuals to help explain the proposed budget cuts and their actual impact on the overall budget.

You’ll never fold tshirts the same way again!

If you ever wanted to hear someone put a mommy’s day into a song, try this one! (I guarantee you’ll laugh your butt off.)

A little on the political side, but interesting nonetheless…
