We currently have a ‘baby pool’ set up in our backyard for the kiddos to play in. I say ‘baby pool’ in quotes because it’s not really very small - it’s actually 8 feet across and 18 inches deep. Hardly a pool for a baby. Nevertheless, the kids have been having a blast in it over the past few weeks.
Yesterday, Shawn filled up the pool and climbed in with the kids to play. They LOVED having Daddy in ‘their’ domain and proceeded to jump, climb, and splash all over Daddy as they shrieked and squealed in glee.
I don’t remember how it started, but somewhere in the course of the fun, Daddy and son started the “Oh, yeah?!?” game. Continue reading…

Now that I’ve attended a couple of movies at AMC’s Summer Movie Camp, I thought I’d share a few tips on how to make it a more enjoyable experience.
- Go early. Try to arrive at the theater at least 15-30 minutes before show time. There are usually a TON of day-cares that take advantage of this great opportunity to get the kids out and you’ll want to beat them to a good seat. Also, at our theater they start the movie right on time WITHOUT any previews. You’ll want to be in your seats ready to go AT 10am on the dot!
- Go with someone. Either take along another adult to help out, or go with friend who also has kiddos. That way, if your daughter needs to go pee in the middle of the film, there’s someone else who can watch your other children in the theater and you don’t have to drag them ALL with you to the bathroom.
- Take your own snacks. While I’m not sure that the movie theater appreciates this piece of advice, you’ll thank me later. My sis-in-law usually packs a baggy of popcorn or a box of raisins in the diaper bag along with the kids’ sippy cups. Although you CAN buy a ’snack-pack’ there at the theater for pretty cheap ($3 for a drink, popcorn and a snack of your choice), the lines are usually pretty outrageous with all the day-care kids.
- Make a day of it! My sister-in-law and I have now done this outing twice and both times we’ve taken the kids to eat lunch at Chick-Fil-A after the movie is over. It’s a great way for us to get some adult time while the kids eat (without being forced to) and then play on the playground.
All three of my kiddos have been very attached to their pacifiers (Karis still IS). So, when it came time to wean them, I was definitely looking for tips on how to do it! Here’s a couple of ideas that I’ve come across… Continue reading…
My sis sent me this link from BabyCheapskate.com on how to know if you’re paying a good price per diaper. Love this lady!
Mundane topic alert! I’ll bet some of you have an image of me sitting around obsessively crunching diaper prices. I swear it’s (mostly) not true! But a reader asked me how much she should be paying per diaper for size 4 premiums. I figured I’d go ahead and create this list for everyone. Make a note of this, it will help you evaluate the deals you find.
These are the per-diaper prices to beat for Cruisers (or Swaddlers) & Huggies Supreme. In other words, this is the most I ever want you to pay per diaper. I arrived at these figures by assuming a $7.99 per jumbo sale and a $1.50 coupon:

Q: Did you have a problem with any of your kids taking to cow’s milk? I have been trying for more than 2 weeks and he just hates it! He won’t even hardly take 3 sips before he’s throwing it down on the floor. I told my doctor about it (this was when i just started trying it) and he didn’t seem overly concerned. He just said to try an ounce at a time every day until he drank it and then go up to 2 oz, then 3 etc. Well, what do you do when they won’t even drink an ounce?

My sister-in-law sent this recently and I thought I’d share with you all… Thanks for the great finds, Tiff!!
Ok, you all know what a bargain shopper I am. I wanted to share 2 good finds with you in case you are in need of clothing for your little ones.
1. Target has just taken a lot of markdowns in their infant/toddler sections as well as girls (didn’t shop boys dept, but I am sure they are marked down too) Up to 75% off !!!! I found quite a few $.98 items for my kids. Mostly tee shirts and a few pairs of cotton shorts.
I spent $42 and bought 18 items. (Just over $2 per item!!)
2. Childrens Place- just marked down quite a bit to $3.99. I always shop online there, and use my web code: BCMP77 for an additional 20% off. Anyone can use this code, so feel free to check it out. Plus, it’s $5.00 shipping no matter how much you buy!!!! Webcode expires 7/22/07. www.childrensplace.com
I spent $65 and got 24 items (just over $2 per item!!)
While I’m still in love with Grey’s Anatomy (except the season finale sucked!), Heroes, and Lost, I’ve just found a new favorite. No, it’s not Deal or No Deal or Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? or even Dancing with the Stars or anything else on primetime.
My new favorite show is on the cable network Noggin at 10:00 AM. (Yes, I am a stay-at-home-mom… With a four year old, a two year old and an 8 month old.) It’s called The Upside Down Show.
I know how much some of you L O V E the other Australian guys (you know - the ones that wiggle), but these guys are much cooler and a lot more fun! They actually crack ME up! They always have a word of the day – today’s was ‘perplexed’ - and do a lot with opposites (I know, hard to believe considering the title of their show). Lots of imaginary play with an imaginary remote control that always has different buttons (itchy button, upside down button where they turn upside down, instant replay – they actually commentate like a sportscaster doing a replay of golf or something, hilarious!). Great show, educational, my kids love it and are sad on any day that we miss it, and it makes adults laugh, too!!
Is there anything better?
Ever been sitting around on a Saturday morning wondering what’s new that you can do in your town? Ever wanted to know a different little book store you could go to? Ever wanted to find a pediatrician in your area that other parents recommend?
Then lilaguide.com is the place for you!
This site is a great resource for finding everything from a local park to a lactation consultant. Plus it’s got product reviews from REAL MOMS!! Great way to check out that new stroller before buying it and finding out that it doesn’t do that one thing you wanted it to!
Best of all, I just found a new activity that I never knew existed. Anyone up for a movie at the Angelika Theatre in downtown Houston? They have a “Cry Baby Matinee” that you can bring kiddos to on Friday or Saturday mornings complete with stroller valet and a baby changing station INSIDE the theatre! No more missing that important scene because you had to change a diaper! Sounds like fun to me!!! Let’s go!
A few weeks ago, some mommy friends of mine and I all decided to take our kids to the Houston Zoo for the day. We all love the zoo, and although it’s a little bit of a trek to get there from our side of town, it’s always worth the effort. The exhibits are great, there’s a TON to see and do, and by the end of the day, we’ve so worn out the kids that they can’t help but sleep! (A precious thing for a mommy to enjoy!) Continue reading…
My sister-in-law wrote me this story some time ago, and I thought it was just too good NOT to share!! Enjoy!
You know how when you are pregnant, everyone you pass on the street, everyone you see in line at the grocery store, everyone in the lobby of the bank, all want to offer you advice on becoming a new mommy? Well, sometimes, it’s helpful. Sometimes it’s not, and you can’t wait for them to stop talking so you can leave.
So, It’s January, 2003, and I am 8 ½ months pregnant with my first child. I wasn’t sure what I was having, so everyone kept guessing, and of course, offering me that “much needed†advice that I had heard enough of. I actually had one lady tell me all 3 of her birthing stories twice, because she didn’t remember that she had already told me the month before. What no one told me was the part I wished I had heard. I had people warn me about the “tar†poopy that babies first have after delivery. I had people warn me about how little sleep I was going to get. I had people giving me all kinds of tips and advice. But no one told me about this………
