Help! My Baby Won’t Take a Bottle!

By Kay on Thu, Apr 19, 2007

Karis is most definitely the baby of the crew already and she’s only 7 months old! She has been exclusively breast-fed since day one with only a bottle or two of formula (when I was sick) during the first 6 months of her baby life.

Over the last few months, Shawn and I have been increasingly busy during the evenings and have found ourselves needing childcare for several events. Grandmothers to the rescue!!! Now, normally, I would tote Karis along with me wherever we went since she was still little and pretty easy to keep up with. But, over the last few months, she’s gotten bigger and needed more entertaining, and honestly, I just needed a break. Continue reading…

How One Stay-at-Home Mom Schedules Her Week

By Sara on Sat, Mar 31, 2007

This post is from my sister - the proud mommy of a 9-month old baby boy! (Who’s one of the cutest boys around, by the way! :)

A little background on me: I am a new stay-at-home mom to my awesome baby boy, Andrew. I am also a bit of an organizational freak (it runs in the family) :). I am one of those people that needs lists and structure and order to my world in order for anything to actually get accomplished. As I know a lot of new moms do, I have really struggled to not only care for my baby (and my husband) but to also actually get something else done with my life. I had dreams of all the projects I would do around the house once I stopped working and stayed at home with my new baby. And dreams they have remained…. ;)

About 4 or 5 months ago I decided I needed some sort of weekly schedule set up as well as a running list of “to do’s” Continue reading…

Milk Bands

Just saw this ad (on my own site, no less) and decided to check it out. They’re called Milk Bands and they are a bracelet that helps a nursing mom keep track of which side she last nursed on, how long the nursing was, and what time it was.

What an awesome invention for all the sleep-deprived moms out there who can never remember from one feeding to the next which breast to start with, or even when the baby last ate! I’m getting one for my pregnant friend and maybe even one for myself! Check it out…

Baby Gear - Nursing Gear

Nursing Wrap/Shawl/Sling: Until this baby came along, I nursed the old-fashioned way with a blanket. You’ve probably seen it before. The frustrated, struggling mom with a corner of a blanket in her mouth or under her chin as she tries to get a screaming baby latched on underneath all the while trying to be discreet and not show off all her stuff. Of course, she can’t see what she’s doing, and baby is kicking and flailing which causes it all to take 42 times longer than it ever should. By the time the baby is actually latched on, everyone is tense and mom is pouring sweat and cursing under her breath. Continue reading…

Q: I need recommendations on breast pumps and bottles. Could you please let me know what worked and what didn’t. There are SO MANY out there that I figured I’d ask those who have experience.

Game Over?

I saw this little cartoon somewhere and after I picked myself up off the floor from laughing so much, I thought, “Wow! How true!”

week_6.png

A couple of weeks ago, Karis had a screaming high temp (103 at one point), and was NOT feeling well. She was very fussy, did NOT want to be put down, but every time you flinched or moved even the slightest little bit while holding her, she would scream. Continue reading…

Crash Course in THREE…

By Kay on Mon, Oct 9, 2006

We now have three children in our household. It’s quite a strange feeling since I grew up in a household of only two kids - me and my younger sister. So far, Karis (the new baby), is fitting in perfectly. She sleeps through the older two rough-housing and screaming at each other, only cries when she’s hungry, and is just a laid-back little girl. (Now I KNOW there is a God and He loves me VERY MUCH!!) So, overall, the transition to three from two has been pretty smooth so far. I know there’s a long way to go, but I’m counting my blessings as they come!

BUT, the first week that Karis was home, my husband and I had a little bit of a crash course in parenting three. Someone told us that going from two kids to three meant that you lose ‘man-on-man coverage’ and you have to switch your parenting style to ‘zone defense’. Of course, the analogy was lost on me until my husband explained that it was related to sports. Oh, now I get it…. kinda… Continue reading…

Welcome Karis Eliana!

On September 17th at 9:43 pm, Miss Karis Eliana finally made her appearance in the world. My wonderful husband (who is the best labor partner a woman could ever ask for!) wrote a little post about it and uploaded some pictures for everyone to enjoy on our family’s site. You can check it out at The Hesketh Family Blog. I’ll be back to writing posts soon. Just let me get a little more sleep… Ahhh, I remember the nights of uninterrupted sleep so fondly… :)

Of course, when you look in her sweet little face, it all seems to be okay again and totally worth it.

My sister sent me a link to this product and it cracked me up so much that I just HAD to write a post about it. I swear if I were having another boy, I would have bought a pack right then and there… Continue reading…

Fussy Newborn

By Kay on Fri, Aug 4, 2006

Q: If my newborn is fussy, and I’ve eliminated diaper change and burping, I don’t want to just assume that he’s hungry and nurse him. However, if he is acting hungry but it’s not “time” to feed him, can I assume he really is hungry? (The question being: will he act hungry and “root” if he is just gassy or in need of TLC?)

I just don’t know what to do with the fussiness. I feel bad because I don’t know what’s wrong. What did you do with Ethan those first weeks when he was so unhappy? What was your method of elimination? Continue reading…
