At one of our last Moms’ Night Out gatherings, we were all discussing babies (duh! We ARE a bunch of moms!) and their cries. Several of us had heard of the ‘baby whisperer’, Priscilla Dunstan, who was on Oprah, but only a couple of us had ever tried it. My sister-in-law has tried it with her baby, Grayson, and is swearing by it! She said she’s been able to figure out his cries pretty easily and is having a much easier time with him than with her other 2 kiddos. Just thought I’d pass it on…
One of my favorite blogs that I visit all the time has just launched a new forum-based website called Freepeats. It works very similarly to FreeCycle only it’s more for the mommy demographic. It’s all about finding and giving away new or gently-used baby items in your local area. The cool thing for me is that they just added Houston (my home town) to the list. Right before our trip to LA, the Hoover Dam, and the Grand Canyon, my mom and I bought this umbrella stroller at Wal-Mart. When you’re trying to pack 4 adults and 3 kids into a minivan along with 2 weeks worth of all their various and sundry stuff, you don’t exactly have room to bring the nice, big double stroller.
Let’s just say that I enjoyed that vacation experience of whipping out the stroller and putting Karis in it in 10 seconds flat so much that I decided to buy myself an umbrella stroller to throw in the back of my car for quick jaunts to the library and such.
So, last week when I was at Wal-Mart I stopped in the baby section to see what they had in stock. They had the same exact stroller that my mom had bought just a month ago, but I found one I liked little better. The one I wound up buying had metal legs and a really cool primary color design.
And the best part??
I only spent ten dollars and 52 cents!!
What could be better?
And I’ve already used it several times and have LOVED how easy it is to get out, use and put back in the car without throwing my back out!!
Don’t get me wrong. I still love my bigger strollers for longer walks and strolling the mall and anything else that would need the diaper bag and other gear to come along. But for those short little adventures out with baby, I’ll take my $10.52 Wal-Mart umbrella stroller any day of the week!!

My baby girl, Karis, just turned into an eating machine! She was doing great nursing and eating a few solids (mostly cereal) during the day until a couple of weeks ago. Then all of a sudden she couldn’t get enough! My normally laid back, sweet-tempered baby started wailing within only an hour or two of the last meal.

Mundane topic alert! I’ll bet some of you have an image of me sitting around obsessively crunching diaper prices. I swear it’s (mostly) not true! But a reader asked me how much she should be paying per diaper for size 4 premiums. I figured I’d go ahead and create this list for everyone. Make a note of this, it will help you evaluate the deals you find.
These are the per-diaper prices to beat for Cruisers (or Swaddlers) & Huggies Supreme. In other words, this is the most I ever want you to pay per diaper. I arrived at these figures by assuming a $7.99 per jumbo sale and a $1.50 coupon:
My beautiful sister is a bargain-hunter extraordinaire and sent me this info on Target’s online coupon generator. Since we both shop there all the time (probably too much), this was a great tip!
Since it’s on the web you can print a coupon out as many times as you like and the store will take multiple print-outs of the same coupon as long as you follow the normal directions on the face of the coupon. I tried it out today on Gerber foods (buy 2 Gerber products and get $1.00 off). I bought 12 Gerber items so used 6 $1.00 off coupons….so I ultimately spent $2.28 instead of $8.28!!!!!!!! This particular coupon is only good until the 15th of August but you could totally go and stock up now for later. What’s also great is it doesn’t stipulate what Gerber food product, so it can be any stage, cereal, crackers or whatever. I don’t know how often you shop at Target, but I think it would definitely be worth at least one visit!! http://coupons.50webs.org/

1. Target has just taken a lot of markdowns in their infant/toddler sections as well as girls (didn’t shop boys dept, but I am sure they are marked down too) Up to 75% off !!!! I found quite a few $.98 items for my kids. Mostly tee shirts and a few pairs of cotton shorts.
I spent $42 and bought 18 items. (Just over $2 per item!!)
2. Childrens Place- just marked down quite a bit to $3.99. I always shop online there, and use my web code: BCMP77 for an additional 20% off. Anyone can use this code, so feel free to check it out. So even though I’ve now had three babies, I still forget when you’re supposed to start certain foods, and how exactly to begin the solids fun after baby’s had that first messy and hilarious taste of rice cereal. My sis found a great website with sample menus for varying age groups and suggested amounts of each food group.
