This post is from my sister - the proud mommy of a 9-month old baby boy! (Who’s one of the cutest boys around, by the way!
A little background on me: I am a new stay-at-home mom to my awesome baby boy, Andrew. I am also a bit of an organizational freak (it runs in the family) :). I am one of those people that needs lists and structure and order to my world in order for anything to actually get accomplished. As I know a lot of new moms do, I have really struggled to not only care for my baby (and my husband) but to also actually get something else done with my life. I had dreams of all the projects I would do around the house once I stopped working and stayed at home with my new baby. And dreams they have remained….
About 4 or 5 months ago I decided I needed some sort of weekly schedule set up as well as a running list of “to do’s” Continue reading…
First of all, whoever decided to name this phenomenon “morning sickness” should be shot. It sets moms up for a rude awakening when the sickness that started in the morning continues into the afternoon, evening, and night time. I mean, if it’s called “morning sickness”, shouldn’t I be feeling better by lunch time? Not necessarily.
After having three children with pretty bad morning sickness in all three of those pregnancies, I’ve tried just about every remedy out there. The bad news? There’s not a cure-all. The good news? There’s lots of different things to try. Sometimes one thing will work and then the next time something else works better. So, just because you’ve tried one remedy and it didn’t work, don’t necessarily rule it out completely. There were a few things that worked more successfully than others for me, so I thought I’d at least add a blog about it to hopefully help someone else out there suffering from this nasty cocktail of hormones.

When you’ve got three active children at home, it gets really difficult to keep up with the memories—writing down all the great stuff they’ve each done. I’ve found that I don’t do well with writing in a baby book or journal for some reason - probably because I worry too much about using pretty handwriting and well-thought out wording for posterity. (I mean, they ARE going to be reading this stuff 30+ years from now and be wondering what kind of mom I was, right??) So, I’ve finally found a system that works for me - for now anyways…

I have a calendar in each of the kids’ rooms. Kate has one with lots of pretty flowers. Ethan has one of old cars. And Karis’ is the ‘first year’ kind of calendar that you can buy with the stickers for each momentous event of that first year of life. (Just as an aside, if you’re in the market for a calendar like this, be sure that you get one with 13 months, otherwise you wind up not accounting for the month of their first birthday. Also, I like this one because it has the ink pad with it so that you can put their hand/feet prints in it throughout the year. Pretty nifty.)

Ever been sitting around on a Saturday morning wondering what’s new that you can do in your town? Ever wanted to know a different little book store you could go to? Ever wanted to find a pediatrician in your area that other parents recommend?
Then lilaguide.com is the place for you!
This site is a great resource for finding everything from a local park to a lactation consultant. Plus it’s got product reviews from REAL MOMS!! Great way to check out that new stroller before buying it and finding out that it doesn’t do that one thing you wanted it to!
Best of all, I just found a new activity that I never knew existed. Anyone up for a movie at the Angelika Theatre in downtown Houston? They have a “Cry Baby Matinee” that you can bring kiddos to on Friday or Saturday mornings complete with stroller valet and a baby changing station INSIDE the theatre! No more missing that important scene because you had to change a diaper! Sounds like fun to me!!! Let’s go!
Looking for a great deal, but don’t want to do all the research to find it? Check out this great little blog site for all the bargain hunters out there…

Let the hunting begin! And let me know if you have any favorite sites that you frequent to find good deals!
A few weeks ago, some mommy friends of mine and I all decided to take our kids to the Houston Zoo for the day. We all love the zoo, and although it’s a little bit of a trek to get there from our side of town, it’s always worth the effort. The exhibits are great, there’s a TON to see and do, and by the end of the day, we’ve so worn out the kids that they can’t help but sleep! (A precious thing for a mommy to enjoy!) Continue reading…
My sister-in-law wrote me this story some time ago, and I thought it was just too good NOT to share!! Enjoy!
You know how when you are pregnant, everyone you pass on the street, everyone you see in line at the grocery store, everyone in the lobby of the bank, all want to offer you advice on becoming a new mommy? Well, sometimes, it’s helpful. Sometimes it’s not, and you can’t wait for them to stop talking so you can leave.
So, It’s January, 2003, and I am 8 ½ months pregnant with my first child. I wasn’t sure what I was having, so everyone kept guessing, and of course, offering me that “much needed†advice that I had heard enough of. I actually had one lady tell me all 3 of her birthing stories twice, because she didn’t remember that she had already told me the month before. What no one told me was the part I wished I had heard. I had people warn me about the “tar†poopy that babies first have after delivery. I had people warn me about how little sleep I was going to get. I had people giving me all kinds of tips and advice. But no one told me about this………
